Platinum Sponsor Announcement: HDE

HDE-log-color-bg_black
We’re thrilled to announce our Platinum Sponsor for PyCon APAC: HDE based in Tokyo! HDE has been very supportive of PyCon in the Asia Pacific region, and this year marks their entrance as sponsors for PyCon APAC.

About HDE:

The last goal of a business is making a profit and contributing to the society through it.

Since we started our business in 1996, we have faithfully worked on how we can make the world better with our new technology.

Our concept of “liberating technology” harbors the hopes that more of our customers can benefit from high-end technology including ours; we believe it can change the world better.

Through the technology, we’d ultimately like to make a new value and contribute to the world economy. Also, we are sure it will return us a bigger benefit by the expansion of the world economy when we pursue common good other than monopolistic trivial gain.

“Accept the present needs and create original but practical solutions.” “Invigorate Japanese IT industry and distribute the interest to as many people as possible.” These are the first step to our goal, which will prove our desire to the intellectual horizon, as well.

As we have done, we will never stop being creative in the future.

HDE believes the potential that Malaysia has, and are excited to tie up with local businesses and also are interested to meet talented engineers during PyCon APAC 2017.

PyCon APAC 2017 Financial Aid Analysis

We did a quick analysis on the take up of our first Financial Aid program for PyCon APAC this year. Hopefully by shedding light on the statistic of the applicants for the FA program, it will increase awareness on such a program, and encourage more new comers to take advantage and join us in future PyCons.

The Analysis

PyCon APAC 2017 is the third PyCon event to be held in Malaysia. As we have a bigger budget to work with for this year’s event, we decided to run a Financial Aid program. The aim of the program is to provide financial assistance of MYR500 to as many attendees as possible to help them participate in the event.

Of the total, 71% are male. We found slightly more than half of them to be from the 21 to 29 year old group. A quarter are below the age of 21, the youngest of which is 19. Another 24% are above 30 years old.

Surprisingly, only 38% of the applicants are Malaysians. The majority of non-Malaysian applicants came from India. More than 60% are working while the remainder are studying or pursuing postgraduate degrees.

Around 38% of the applicants have attended a previous PyCon event; for one candidate this will be his 4th PyCon event. For the remainder, this will be their first PyCon.

Nearly two-thirds of them have advanced knowledge of Python, having produced products to do with Python or with Python. Two of the candidates are speakers for PyCon APAC 2017.

And that’s it. We thought it would be interesting to provide a breakdown of the candidates who applied for this Financial Aid program. Of the batch, 15 were selected. Our committee also made sure that all 15 attendees receive coupon codes that allow them to purchase PyCon APAC 2017 tickets at a discount.

Hopefully with the sharing of this data, we will be able to encourage more Python enthusiasts to apply for future similar programs.

Financial Support from PyCon JP

PyCon MY and PyCon JP go back a long way: Our chair for PyCon APAC 2017 this year is also a founding and board member of PyCon JP. The members of PyCon JP came for PyCon MY 2015 to show their support, and through PyCon JP, we were connected to various sponsors from Japan that has helped made what PyCon MY it is today.

We are happy and honored to announce that we have received aid in the amount of USD5000 from PyCon JP. We were made to understand that this aid is a pledge made by PyCon JP as part of their effort to help make PyCon APAC a success in other communities: PyCon JP received aid from PyCon SG when they organized PyCon APAC in 2013, and they believe now it is the time for them to return back the favor.

We would like to thank you PyCon JP and the JP community for their much needed and continuous support!

Announcing the 2nd batch of our Financial Aid recipients

We would like PyCon to be accessible to everyone who wants to come and get involved, but one of the hurdles to accessibility is the financial burden that attending a conference imposes on attendees.
So one of the new things that we’re trying to do for PyCon APAC 2017 is to give out financial aid to selected participants. You can read more about our Financial Aid program philosophy here.

We have already received and approved 10 recipients in the 1st batch of Financial Aid. For the 2nd batch of Financial Aid recipients, we originally had a budget for another 2 recipients, but after getting strong support from our regional friends, we now have managed to make additional space for another extra 3 recipients, making it 5 recipients for this batch. One recipient from the 1st batch have informed us that he could not attend PyCon APAC, so we moved his grant to another person from the 2nd batch.

After announcing that we are looking for 2 more recipients for our financial aid program, we were surprised to receive quite a number of applications still. So instead of selecting 2, we selected a total of 6 applicants to receive this financial grant.

Congratulations to the following applicants from the 2nd batch:

1. Aw Yeong Yi Wen (9X0X16-XX-XXXX)
2. Lai Jie Yan (9X1X02-XX-XXXX)
3. Mohd Alif Al-Hafizd bin Zaimee (9X1X19-XX-XXXX)
4. Robbi Nespu Bin Mohd Mokhtar (9X0X12-XX-XXXX)
5. Yong Kai Xin (9X1X19-XX-XXXX)
6. Zohreh Dehghani Champiri (T963XXXXX)

Once again, all successful applicants are reminded to bring their Photo ID for identification to collect the financial aid. The fund will be provided to you on-site at the conference itself. We reserve the right to not process the disbursements in the event that any of the applicants fail to attend the conference.

Thank you for your submissions. See you at the conference.
